André Aciman
André Aciman is an Egyptian-Italian-American writer. Born and raised in Alexandria, Egypt, he is a memoirist, essayist, novelist, and scholar of seventeenth-century literature. His works have appeared in The New Yorker, The New York Times, The Paris Review, The New Republic, as well as in many volumes of The Best American Essays. Aciman completed his Ph.D. in comparative literature from Harvard. He has also authored several novels including Eight White Nights, Call Me by Your Name (winner in Gay Fiction Category of 2007 Lambda Literary Award) and a 1995 memoir, Out of Egypt (winner of Whiting Award). He is currently a professor at the Graduate Center of City University of New York, where he teaches the history of literary theory and the works of Marcel Proust. He has previously taught creative writing at New York University and French literature at Princeton and Bard College.
