David Murray "Dav" Pilkey Jr. is an American cartoonist, artist, and author of children's literature. Pilkey is best known as the author, illustrator, and designer of the children's book series Captain Underpants and the children's graphic novel series Dog Man. Pilkey was diagnosed with attention deficit disorder and dyslexia in childhood. In elementary school, he was frequently scolded for his behavior in class and thus usually sat at a desk in the hallway, where he came up with the character Captain Underpants. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, Pilkey currently resides in Seattle, Washington, with his wife.
