I'm Latino, progressive, and I have deep roots in the working class - my father was a bracero, a guest farmworker and cook, and my mom worked as a nursing home laundry attendant.
I always knew it'd be difficult to balance the right of privacy and the right of free speech. I think that is a tension that we've seen in court case after court case and law after law. And we always strive to find that right balance.
As a California state legislator, I supported our cap-and-trade law to force polluters to pay for releasing harmful greenhouse gases to combat climate change.
I believe everyone deserves access to clean air and water, and that climate change has exacerbated this challenge.
I want to work on environmental issues.
I'm still the community college kid with immigrant parents.
